The Orlando Radio Control Helicopter Society is the only club in the Orlando area that caters solely to the R/C helicopter enthusiast. Our membership consists of people with experience that ranges from complete beginners that are not yet able to “hover” to world class pilots that compete at the XFC and 3D Masters. TORCHS normally meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM in the community room at the Fashion Square Mall on Hwy 50 in Orlando.

Membership Application Guidelines There are three (3) types of membership available. They are as follows:

1. General Member – afforded full flying and voting privileges. Requires AMA membership.

   Annual Membership Fee: $50.00

2. Family Member – any additional family member in a household that includes a general member. Requires AMA membership.

   Annual Membership Fee: $25.00

3. Associate Member – any individual desiring to be a non flying member of the club. AMA membership not required.

   Annual Membership Fee: $25.00

Senior Citizen Discount – Senior Citizens (60 and over) are entitled to a 50% discount on their “General Membership”. In order to exercise your flying privileges at our club fields, you must be a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA). If you are not, a current AMA application is available at the AMA’s website. TORCHS cannot allow you to participate in any flying activity at any of our fields unless you are an active member of the AMA.

Safety Rules

• All AMA safety rules apply.
• Every flier MUST be an AMA member.
• Only Members and guests of members are allowed to fly.
• Allowable frequencies are those specified by the AMA frequency plan.
• Transmitter frequency flags and channel numbers are required as per AMA recommendations when using 72 MHz.
• No flying is allowed over the spectator/pit areas of the flying field and over any designated NO FLY zone(s).
• NO fixed wing aircraft allowed in the presence of helicopter flying.
• No flying into or out of the pit area. Engine starting in designated areas only. The rotor head of the helicopter must be held securely while the engine is running and the helicopter is behind the flight line.

Aircraft Operation Safety Requirements:

• Any new or rebuilt model must be inspected and deemed safe by an advanced pilot.
• Any novice pilot must be accompanied by another pilot as an observer, when any other person is at the field.
• We discourage our members from flying alone.
• Pilots will be rated according to the schedule outlined in the club rules: Beginner, Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced.

Guest Policy

A guest may fly their model helicopter at any of our fields one time only during any fiscal year and the following conditions must be met:

• A guest MUST have a valid AMA card.
• A guest MUST be accompanied by a TORCHS member.
• A guest MUST read and accept the City of Winter Garden’s damage waiver (download below).
• A guest MUST sign a guest signup sheet available at the field.
• A guest MUST comply with AMA and field rules.

2. Complete the membership application and field use waiver and have the waiver notarized.
